This beach is a resting place for some pretty cool creatures, endangered Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles. These turtles can often be found lazing around on the beach, soaking up the sun. Though the turtles are neat to see, don’t get to close to them. They have no immune system, and bacteria from our skin could kill them. So remember to keep your distance.

Hawaii’s Big Island, continues to grow from the generous supply of lava. Seeing as much of the island consists of lava rock, Hapuna Beach HI is surprisingly, one of the few white sand beaches. The beautiful blue of the ocean is a wonderful sight, as is the rest of the beach. The white sand flows up from the water to be surrounded by lush greenery, captivating the viewers attention.

Just off the shore is the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Situated on the bluffs above the beach tourists staying at the hotel have a stunning view of the ocean.  The whole beach, including the beachfront at the hotel, is a public area, welcoming tourists and locals.

Hapuna in the Hawaiian language means “Spring of Life”.  It was named this because, in ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall; underground springs would bubble to the surface to create natural fountains. These natural springs would provide clean water for travelers passing by.

In the summer the waves are fairly calm and mornings at the beach are warm and lovely, by late afternoon the sand can get quite hot. Unlike the summer months, the winter’s can be dangerous as the waves are huge and the current is stronger than most other times. When conditions are too dangerous to swim there is usually a sign posted in warning.

Hapuna Beach Hawaii is a part of a state park, which is why the beach has facilities for visitors

Waikiki was once the home of Hawaiian royalty, and famed surfer, Duke Kahanamoku,

the “father of modern surfing”, who’s bronze statue stands ready to welcome you onto the beach. Duke Kahanamoku was born on August 24, 1890. He was an amazing swimmer and broke the world record in 100 yard freestyle swimming in 1911. In 1912, 1920 and 1924 he competed in the Olympics, never leaving empty handed. All together Duke won 3 gold medals and 2 silver. Later he began his acting career in Hollywood. The Hawaiian hero died on January 22, 1968.

Where Waikiki once housed royalty, it is now a place built to attract tourists. The beach is lined by a wide variety of hotels, restaurants and shops. Entertainment can be found around every corner.

There’s never an end to the things you can see and do at Waikiki Beach.
